Blinking Object - 2nd material?

I've got a Minecraft Creeper that is rigged and textured that I'd like to animate to explode, aka - blinking white prior to exploding. I was thinking the way to achieve this would be to create a 2nd material with a White Diffuse BSDF mixed with a Transparent BSDF that I keyframe on and off. Linked screenshot shows my node setup.

How would I go about animating this material to be active when I want it to? Is this even the right approach?

Thanks for your time, Rick

You don't really need two materials. You can simply connect the creeper-shader to one input of a Mix Shader and the blinking-shader to the other input. Then you simply keyframe the factor of the Mix Shader-node (holding the cursor over the factor and then pressing i).

I've added an image which probably explains it a bit better.

Hope that helps, Håvard

Ahh, I knew I was making it harder than it had to be! Thanks for the help, Håvard, I greatly appreciate it! Once I start finishing some of these little scenes, I'll post them.
