Welcome to my After Effects Forum! In here you can ask questions, share your work (be careful with copyrighted content , get feedback, help and more.
This is my first time running a forum so please allow for a bit of time for me to figure everything out. I might move some topics around or merge forums if it becomes more easy to manage that way.
In the end I want this to be a friendly, constructive and supportive space for everyone! If you have any questions, please post them up here or shoot me a message via my Contact page .
I have several complex VFX shots planned for my upcoming Indie film Gabriel AD 2016, including characters that burst into flames, characters that fly, characters that eyes change colour and a few other special shots that I will definitely seek advice on when the time comes..
Keep up the great work mate, really enjoy being part of all you share and do..Gary Hartley
Thank you so much for your kind words and helping test out my forumsSounds like you have an exciting project coming up! Do let me know how you go and post any questions / issues you may have in this forum.
I haven't made any official announcements yet, but I do plan to make these forums the main way to keep in touch with me. YouTube is getting too hard to manage and I am in need of a better way to help people out and keep everything together and organised.Thank you very much for all your (continued) support! I really appreciate your help!
Unfortunately I cannot tell what effects, blend modes or masks you may have applied to those layers from the screenshot alone. If you are just getting started with After Effects, check out my Absolute Beginner tutorial series
Once you understand the basics (and especially blend modes and masking), you should have no problem:https://www.surfacedstudio.com/blog/updates/after-effects-basics-beginner-tutorial-series
It's nice to have you on here and hopefully it'll be a useful place to ask questions and get feedback and answers.I'm really excited that there's actually people rocking up. Would be a pretty empty forum otherwise haha!
and will be a great help to many people in the future i am sure. Thanks a lot.
Nice that you now also have a forum.I am Maik, I am 30 years old this month and come from Germany.
I've been using After Effects since March. I saw some "travel videos" on YouTube, so I can't get past Sam Kolder. Here I wondered how he gets such cool effects in his films, how texts are aligned to objects and how he gets the colors so wonderfully. At the same time I saw "Action Movie Kid". A great series of films where the father makes an action film with his children, or little scenes where a jet flies over him, the boat on the playground ports itself to a ship on the open sea and much more. The desire to create something like this was awakened.
After some research I came across After Effects.I knew this software existed because I liked to work with Photoshop or Affinity Photo in the past, but video editing was usually one level too high for me.
Nevertheless, I finished the After-Effects Adobe subscription and just got started. After a short time I came to your channel and there I found exactly what I wanted. Short videos to the point. Now I have some tutorials from you through and look forward to more.
At the same time I plan to start with Blender, because I would like to include new objects in existing videos. I know that it works with Element 3D, but for now the price is too high (especially with all required plugins).
Look forward to more and greetings from Germany.
Hello Tobias! Love your videos! My name is Leon. I would say my After Effects level is around the Intermediate level.
I was watching this video on YouTube called “Action Movie Kid Vol 2” The video went viral a while back and I think it was on the news too. It’s full of several vfx shots and in it around the 2:14 mark, the kid is hanging off the edge of a building.I was wondering how can this be done at a basic level in After Effects?
I also wanted to ask you Tobias, if maybe you could do a video an how to achieve this effect.

Hey everybody! I hope this is okay to post here? I have been watching so many YouTube tutorials, joined many Adobe after effects Facebook pages! Was helped with figuring out parts of a intro I am trying to create and bring to life but I am feeling like I am getting no where other than bummed and stressed outI even got help from Rick Gerard! That's pretty Amazing!!! But I am confused by his directions or I can't seem to get them to work as I am on a surface and I can't tell if I am doing the right buttons and if I am, why what I need to work is not working
I don't know if my wording is understandable but these are the post I have tried to get help on...Hello, I maybe using the wrong wording? But what I am thinking is I have a image of a light bulb that I would like to be traced by sparks to create the outline of the image then I will make the light flicker and then be bright...
I don't know if this is the same but I have been trying to find a way to get a lens flare to follow the outline of a image make it trace the image so that the outline is lit and then the image is revealed in the outline? It's great learning that what I am trying to accomplish can be done, but it's also been really hard and sad to go through tutorials and hrs of trying things over and over and finding nothing that seems to work or if it is working not being able to be told where my mistakes are that maybe preventing my ideas becoming visually seen.
If what I am trying for is so easy why is it not coming to life or been seen on YouTube:(Thanks for reading.....
I am from Singapore. I have been learning after effects for fun since January 2018.
Hi Tobias, i like your tutorials on after effects.Initially i thought i could also learn Houdini from you but unfortunately there has been no more new tutorial posted. Anyway, thanks for making learning after effects so easy and fun.
Hi! After effects is frustrating at first! Then i saw Surfaced studio tutorials and now i am able to do all kinds of effects by my own! Tobias and Walter together explain it beautifully! I suggest you watch his basics of After effects playlist on his channel first! "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyvyRKtvGXU&list=PLs2aOcA-EaLOkeCowZNSQswwrOcgsSn7C"
