Hello evryone,

I just tried all that I know about 3d camera tracking on Ae but I can't solve this problem.

I am trying to add informations into a footage with a traveling camera movement, no problem in camera tracking or anything but I can't find a solution to make the text move smoother... but instead my text makes a flickering effect while mooving, any idea how to remove that ?

Thx ( sorry about my english I am French)

Here is the exemple I am talking about

Hi Alaink, unfortunately I can't seem to play back your video file - I just see white. Are you able to share it via YouTube or Facebook?

In terms of the tracking, after you created the 3D track, are you creating a 3D plane in the tracked space that contains the 'information' you want to insert? The plane should smoothly follow your footage if your track is good, e.g. the tracking error is low. Then you can replace the plane with anything else you want to insert into your moving shot.

I have a (slightly old, but hopefully still relevant) video on how to use the 3D Camera Tracker here that might help:

Hope that helps!

Hi Alaink, thanks for uploading the video, I can see it now

What do you mean by 'flickering' - the text itself to me looks fine. You may want to enable motion blur to make it look a bit smoother, but I don't see any flickering per se. The only thing I can see flickering are the motion tracking markers themselves, but that's normal as they come in and out.

Could you explain what you mean with 'flickering'?

hey ;) thx for your reply,

Well I am actually not sure what to call this but it like the box of information is not mooving smoothly as the moovment is making some micro stops instead of just doing one smoth movment ... and by activating the blur effect it's kinda worse lol

That doesn't even look like motion blur, that just looks like some strange blur with low samples - 2 from what it looks like. How did you add the motion blur? Also, in the comp settings under 'Advanced' make sure you have set the number of Samples set to a decent number (16 at least) otherwise any motion blur will just look blocky rather than smooth.

The main thing is though that the blur amount doesn't even seem to match what I'd expect 'motion blur' to look like

so, I played arroud with comp settings but nothing seem to be working ... here is a screenshot

I am wondering if this "effect" isnt due to the shape of the box in which I put my text ?

It's some kind of micro stops in a the motion instead of a fluid smooth motion...

Hm, those settings look alright to me. I assume your shutter angle of 720 degrees is just for testing though?

I've done a test with the exact same Comp settings just to check. I create a comp with a 3D camera and a 3D layer with some text. Enabled motion blur and this is what I get:

3D text layer with motion blur

Which is what I would have expected your comp text layer to look like. It just looks like it's not using enough samples for the motion blur. Are there any effects applied to the 3D layer?

You could also try to just create a new comp, animate a piece of text and enable motion blur to make sure the basic functionality for motion blur works as expected. If that also looks whack, maybe there's something wrong with your graphics card drivers potentially?
